Johann Angerler studies human cooperation and is exploring the potential of humanity to cooperate globally.
He was born in Austria in 1957, studied history, anthropology and Indonesian languages in Vienna, Leiden and Bandung (University Padjadjaran), holds an MA (history) from the University of Vienna and a PhD (cultural anthropology) from the University Leiden (where he was employed) and has extensively studied cooperation in traditional stateless societies. To achieve this aim, he spent more than seven years learning from people with a tradition of statelessness in Sumatra, Indonesia, and countless hours in archives and libraries in Europe and Asia.
He is now an independent scholar and lives with his family in Austria.
